What I Was Feeling When Tom Punched Myrtle

I was at the Morningside Heights apartment that Tom owned to carry on his affair. Tom took me and his lover Myrtle there to meet up with Myrtle’s sister, Catherine, and a couple named the McKees. I was disgusted by these people and what they were saying, but it was an interesting sight to be witnessing. All of a sudden, Myrtle begins talking about Daisy and Tom becomes infuriated by this remark, so he punches her right in the nose! I could not believe what I had just seen, totally rude and disrespectful behavior. I was so shocked that Tom would do such a thing. I know that he wasn’t thinking right after drinking and partying, but it was still very ridiculous and uncalled for. I was so surprised to see Tom’s true colors and that he is a crazy bully and could even manage to do something like that. I was caught off guard from the incident and I did not know what to do. Tom should have just walked away if Myrtle was making such a big deal about Daisy. I don’t even understand why he cared about her saying Daisy’s name, since he has been cheating on Daisy for a long time. It made me feel sick to my stomach to see a grown man just lose control of his temper and throw a hard punch right to a woman’s face. I now worry that Tom could lose control and do something horrific like this to his wife, Daisy. I learn from this moment on that Tom is an abusive maniac.

  1. Nick, where do I begin? Its the 20's I can hit woman, even if shes nothing but a roadside gas station scank. How dare this acute minded person talk about my wife! shes lucky I didn't knock her out. Rude and disrespectful? how about on both parts! she had no right, her bank account doesn't even have any commas. Nick you're lucky I didn't see or hear you speak about this altercation because you would have gotten it worse.

  2. Nick, you just aren't looking at it from my point of view. Myrtle had no reason to be chanting Daisy's name, and was obviously just doing it to get on my nerves. She was being loud and obnoxious and needed to get herself under control, but she was too drunk to do that so I helped get herself under control by knocking some sense into her. Literally. She deserved it. There was no reason for her to be mentioning Daisy anyways, she's irrelevant while I'm with Myrtle.

  3. Nick, I'm disappointed as your cousin that you would even participate in Tom's foolish affair. Tom is out of control and I'm glad you realize that but I don't know why he would bring you to his affair house to party with his mistress and her friends. He has a whole other life, which I'm not included in. I don't want my cousin involved in it too. Next time, don't go with him. Tom has always been abusive.
