Baker had told me of her meeting with Jay Gatsby at his party about how he and
Daisy were in love with each other before he went to the war. Gatsby wanted me to invite them both over for tea at my house to catch up and I agreed to
this meeting in hopes to help get Gatsby and Daisy back together. Over the course of
a few days, I had learned many things about the people in my life. I learned
that Tom and Daisy probably did not even love each other and that Tom is an
abusive maniac. I knew that my cousin Daisy was not happy in that moment of her
life and who she was with. I was afraid that Tom could hurt Daisy and make a
bad mistake in their relationship. They just were not suited for each other.
Daisy deserved better in her life. I believed that Gatsby and Daisy truly had
something real back in Louisville, and were happily in love with each other. I
knew that they could not re-create the past but it was definitely worth a shot.
I then learned why Gatsby moved to West Egg and would go out late at night to
look across the water. He wanted to be close to Daisy and was holding his arms
out to her. I knew at that moment that Jay Gatsby was still in love with my
cousin Daisy and that he really deserved a chance at happiness with his old time
lover.
