Why I Moved to West Egg

I had just returned home from fighting in World War I and I had no idea where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. As time passed, I jumped around from occupation to occupation trying to find out what career I would like to pursue, but nothing stuck out. I know I can handle any job because I'm a hard worker and I don't give up.  On top of finding a job, I had to make a decision on where I wanted to live and I knew that I could not stay in Minnesota. I knew I had to leave everything behind in the Midwest and turn my life totally around. I then decided to be a stock broker, so I moved to New York City. The stock market was booming and New York City was the center of this new, exciting business. My only problem was that I did not want to live in the heart of New York City because it would be too much of a change coming from plain, simple Minnesota. Would New York City be too busy, overwhelming, and too distracting?  I did some research and poked around the city and finally found a nice place in an area called West Egg. I decided on a small house at the tip of West Egg because it's a great location.  This spot is my best bet because it fits my taste and likenesses and I can take the train that runs through the town into the city so I can work on Wall Street.  I have the best of both worlds, I can still live a suburban life style away from all of the madness going on downtown.

What I Was Thinking When I First Saw Gatsby

I had just arrived home late at night from a wonderful dinner at the Buchanan’s regal home in East Egg. I was sitting outside in the dark admiring the night as I then caught a glimpse of a shadow appear at my neighbor’s impressive mansion. I could tell right away by his movements and gestures that it was the Mr. Gatsby, whom everyone admired. I thought it was very cool, but crazy to have laid eyes on Mr. Gatsby, since I had never seen him before. It was strange to see him outside all alone by himself because it was so late at night. I was in true amazement seeing Gatsby and I had a strong urge to approach him.  I really wanted to introduce myself and talk to him since Mrs. Jordan Baker had mentioned him to me at the Buchanan’s dinner. As soon as I worked up the courage to call for him, it seemed as if he was content and wanted to be alone at the moment. Gatsby proceeded to stretch his arms out towards the water in a very strange way and appeared to be shaking. I thought this was very peculiar and could not comprehend what he was doing. I was trying to figure out what was going on in his head and what he was thinking. I wonder what is Gatsby thinking about so intensely?  I then looked out towards the water to see what he was reaching for, but all I could see was the dark water in the distance and a green light. I then looked over towards Gatsby, but he wasn’t there, he had vanished in the darkness. I was very intrigued by the mysterious Gatsby and I knew then that I wanted to become closer and know more about the famous man known as the Great Gatsby.

What I Was Feeling When Tom Punched Myrtle

I was at the Morningside Heights apartment that Tom owned to carry on his affair. Tom took me and his lover Myrtle there to meet up with Myrtle’s sister, Catherine, and a couple named the McKees. I was disgusted by these people and what they were saying, but it was an interesting sight to be witnessing. All of a sudden, Myrtle begins talking about Daisy and Tom becomes infuriated by this remark, so he punches her right in the nose! I could not believe what I had just seen, totally rude and disrespectful behavior. I was so shocked that Tom would do such a thing. I know that he wasn’t thinking right after drinking and partying, but it was still very ridiculous and uncalled for. I was so surprised to see Tom’s true colors and that he is a crazy bully and could even manage to do something like that. I was caught off guard from the incident and I did not know what to do. Tom should have just walked away if Myrtle was making such a big deal about Daisy. I don’t even understand why he cared about her saying Daisy’s name, since he has been cheating on Daisy for a long time. It made me feel sick to my stomach to see a grown man just lose control of his temper and throw a hard punch right to a woman’s face. I now worry that Tom could lose control and do something horrific like this to his wife, Daisy. I learn from this moment on that Tom is an abusive maniac.
